About Us
This project initiated from discussions around Open Educational Resources (OER) in the K-12 context. More specifically, it grew from interest in:
the potential of OER to decrease preparation time for teachers and increase access to high quality instruction for all students.
addressing some of the challenges inherent in the adoption of open practices, including copyright awareness and the time it takes to locate relevant OER.
positioning teacher-creators as an essential component of successful K-12 OER initiatives.
growing a K-12 community of practice anchored in OER in Alberta

Purpose of the Site
This site aims to support best practices around creating and sharing K-12 Open Educational Resources (OER):
Help teachers achieve recognition for their work by emphasizing standards for attribution.
Introduce educators to existing platforms where they might publish their work (such as Learnful.ca or OER Commons).
Link to teacher-published resources or Websites with open licenses (Gallery).
Provide a starting point for discovering K-12 OER (Find OER)
Highlight the need for a unified approach to K-12 OER in Alberta. Teachers are co-creators of Curriculum, and OER offers an exciting leadership opportunity for both individual teachers and School Divisions.
